The "Foresteria Orsa Maggiore" Guesthouse, located on the second floor of the International Women's Home, is right in the heart of the very central and characteristic Roman-style Trastevere district. The Guesthouse, for women only, has several highly-functional furnished rooms. The Women's Home was crated in 1615 as the first Carmelite laywomen's prison in the Church State its plan being to create an open structure, a laboratory which combines cultural enterprise and services.

Orsa Maggiore has 11 large well-lit rooms, furnished in a modern and highly-functional style. Whoever stays here will find the right solution for them, from single room with bathroom to rooms with up to eight beds (or less), with or without private en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms outside the rooms have been designed for handiness, discreteness and privacy. The windows in every room, then, offer a marvellous view of the Janiculum, the roofs of ancient Rome and the Seventeenth-Century cloister below.

Breakfast, included in the price, offers a vast choice of tasty and healthy products - the best way to start your day!

Guests here also have access to a common room for relaxing away listening to music, watching satellite TV, reading books from our library or the paper, playing board games or surfing away at our Internet points.

The complex also contains the fine "Luna e l'Altra" Restaurant, a shop which promotes arts and crafts by women and products based on equal rights, a bookshop, a cafeteria, a congress centre, a documentation centre, a historical archive on the women's movement and a library.

The "Luna e l'Altra" Restaurant, open to all for lunch and only for women at night, has a room with air-conditioning and a tree-lined garden for the Spring and Summer. Here you can have a very relaxing dinner, just a stone's throw from the "hustle and bustle" of Trastevere, and its theatres, cinemas and great pubs and clubs. The Restaurant offers a menu featuring the products of the season and vegetarians will find a few nice surprises in the menu here.

The Home organises training courses, shows, exhibitions, seminars and book presentations. There are also psychological, legal consultancy and women's health centres here.

Orsa Maggiore offers other extra services such as the fitness area called "Being and Well-Being" and is also a booking agency for trips to museums and other organised or guided tours and events.
