Located on one of the first hills after Milan on a street of lakes, dominating the valley of the Adda with a panorama framed by the Resegone and Grigna hills, the "Il Torchio" Bed and Breakfast is a stylishly-restructured 19th-Century farm immersed in a lovely atmosphere with its discreet sense of the old. The courtyard is in the local style and the large garden regenerates the guests with its colourful and fragrant flowers.
The house has a big living room with age-old fireplace, wooden beam ceilings, brick flooring and 100% genuine ancient rustic furnishing. Beneath a lovely Art Nouveau window, there is an old piano for those who want to play. The walls are covered in pictures and several interesting objects found by the owners at the several local antique markets. The dining room has an imposing table where the whole family and the guests can have breakfast and dinner.
The back of the house is on a slight slope. In the garden, you can relax totally in the shade of a big walnut tree and a magnolia tree or taste the fruit from the nearby trees and orchard.
Breakfast is big and, as well as the usual classic elements, offers home-made cakes and jams, yoghurt and daily fresh bread and milk.
The dinners, if you wish, are based on the local specialities and as natural as possible. The cellar has typical wines from the Oltrepò Pavese region.
The double room with private bathroom is very nice, with wallpaper on the walls, modern wardrobe, desk and a big glass showcase with collections of all kinds. The second bedroom is extremely romantic: it has a double bed and is stylishly furnished with wallpapered walls and wooden ceiling beams. Beside the bed, there's an Art Nouveau style screen. The single room has a wardrobe, desk and an old chest of drawers. The furnishing in all the rooms is not at all extravagant, as decided by the owners.
The porch facing the Bed and Breakfast is the same as the main villa, which once belonged to the Calchi family, a noble local family from whom the town took its name. The villa itself has frescoes from the school of "Luini", a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci.
Calco is 35 kilometres from Milan and nearby, as well as Monza, we have the Adda river, the lake of Lecco and Como, Imbersago, famous for its wooden ferry on the Adda, and Paderno d'Adda, whose bridge offers you a magnificent view of the river.
