"Il Cortiletto" is a charming Bed and Breakfast on the Island of Ortigia, the heart of the historical centre of Syracuse. The house, built at the beginning of the 19th century, is composed of two independent apartments which open onto a typical open air Siracusan-style courtyard. Both apartments are very silent and have recently been renovated and furnished with taste. The view of this intense coloured crystalline sea from the Bed and Breakfast is just breathtaking!
Both apartments have a living-room with sofa-bed and kitchen unit and a double sleeping-room with en-suite bathroom. Each apartment can host up to four people. The "Courtyard" is a one-level apartment, the other, "Courtyard Twin", is on two levels and has two bathrooms. Both apartments have got air conditioning, heating, satellite TV, a well equipped kitchen and a reading area with Internet point. The apartments are cleaned daily.
Breakfast can be enjoyed in the open air courtyard or on the panoramic terrace overlooking the sea.
During your stay, you will be surrounded by an intense coloured sea. The coast is characterized by sandy beaches, such as the famous "Fontane Bianche" beach with crystal-clear water, easily reachable from Ortigia by ferry boat.
Daily-trips to Vendicari nature reserve, Cava Grande, Pantalica reserve, Palazzolo with its Greek theatre are a must. Noto, Ragusa Ibla and Modica, three towns belonging to UNESCO, are famous for their Baroque buildings.
At approximately 150 kilometres, with daily excursions, you can also reach Taormina, the park of the mighty Volcano Mount Etna, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina with its famous Roman Villa, The Castle of Donnafugata where the film by Visconti "The Leopard" was partly shot.
"Il Cortiletto" Bed and Breakfast organises tours by canoe along the river Ciane, famous for its papyrus which grows wild in this area of Sicily.
