Medieval charm among the unspoilt green nature of Mugello
"Castelluccio", an ancient little medieval castle which dates back to the Twelfth Century AD, is located on the slopes of the enchanting Mugello Valley and right beside the splendid city of art, Florence. This guest house structure is located within a truly wonderful and exciting series of landscapes. Here, the geography and history of the area is second to none: you will find mountains, hills, valleys and streams which are still unspoilt, pure air, atmospheres and colours and sounds and smells which make the place truly magic.
The guest house structure has been carefully and completely restructured, which was a complex restoration process as the idea was to respect the original plans. The structure is located atop a rocky cliff which dominates the valley below, surrounded by a whole series of stone terracing. The complex as a whole is surrounded by a private park which merges beautifully with the green areas all around. Here you will find a lovely swimming pool with an irregular shape (6 x 10 m) created within the cliff in front of the main entrance to the tower, boasting a ladder (open from 15 May to 30 September).
The five rooms have been created following the natural architectural design of the walls of the Old Medieval Castle. The result is both creative and original, with irregular perimeters and the presence of short flights of steps, little arches, raised levels, recesses and bas reliefs stuccoed in original old-age stone from the Medieval period. The floors are solid oak parquet and the ceilings are colonial Tuscan style with large solid chestnut wood crossbeams and handmade ancient brickwork tiles .
All the rooms have large windows with architrave arrangements in "pietra serena" stone from where you can enjoy a landscape of rare authentic beauty looking onto the adjacent valleys and woods. All the rooms have colour TV, private en-suite bathrooms with showers, telephones and heating systems. Three of the rooms also have independent entrances from outside, with access from the stunning covered Castelluccio balcony which leads directly onto Piazza del Castelletto with a view of the swimming pool.
Castelluccio offers its guests a breakfast, lunch and dinner service so you will have the chance to experience cuisine which follows the old Tuscan culinary tradition. What you will be treated to here is the cuisine of Mugello which offers a new take on a wide range of fine local dishes, not to mention the vast range of wonderful local wines.
When the weather is nice, you can enjoy your breakfast served on the nice terrace right in front of the tower, on the terrace at the back, in little "Piazzetta di Castelluccio" or at the side of the swimming pool.
The structure, then, is near "Bilancino" Lake which, as well as swimming, offers a whole series of water sports (canoeing, sail-boating and windsurfing) .
There are several little routes to head off along on foot or bicycle or why not ride a horse (the horse riding centre is just a few km away)? Here you will discover wonderful Tuscan panoramas, still not very well-known but amazing all the same. Just a few km away, you can play golf or visit the famous Mugello motor racing track.
The ideal place, then, to spend some magical and unforgettable moments enjoying the ancient recipes of Tuscany along with a few glasses of the famous red wines of these generous and warm lands.
