The ?Famiglia Tosto? Bed and Breakfast is located on the hills of Cirella, a nice village in the ?Diamante? town, only 1 kilometre from the blue Tyrrheanian Sea. The house is a country home, the only survivor from an old medieval village. It has been recently restored in total respect of its original structure and shape and in harmony with the intrinsic local characteristics. The result, backed up by the care and attention to detail of the owners, is a nice and charming combination of elements.
The house, with its thick stone walls, is on two floors: the ground floor has a nice portico; on the first floor, there is a large terrace with one room for guests and private bathroom. A secondary house is provided with two large rooms with private bathrooms and it is connected with the main house by a portico with a kitchen inside.
As you leave the rooms, the view is taken up by the intense blue of the Tyrrheanian Sea, only broken by a small green island with a 16th Century Aragonese tower on top. Turn to the west, on a hill which falls sheer to the sea, to see the ruins of the old Cirella Castle, a total jewel. In the distant landscape on the east, on top of the hills, you see small medieval villages still rich of life, and, even further away, the high peaks of ?Pollino Park?, among the wildest and purest in Europe. Behind the house, recently built, a Greek style amphitheatre which hosts Music and Festivals in the summer.
In the 3000 square metres of hanging garden, beyond the biological cultivation and the several plants, many of which are close to extinction, there's an "open air" museum among the oleander, hibiscus and myrtle trees: various-sized stone sculptures, sober and simple, invite you to meditation, contemplation and harmony.
In the neighbourhood, special mention must be made of Diamante, a sea village famous for its numerous "Murales" and for the panoramic promenade; the wild "National Park? of the Pollino in which you can carry out beautiful trekking excursions, demanding ones too, and where you can raft along the gorges of the Orsomarso on the river Lao. At ninety kilometres, more accessible and sweet, the plateau of the Sila, that offers panoramas of the deep North in the deep South.
From diving into the crystalline water of the Tyrrheanian Sea to skiing in the Sila and rafting on the tops of the Pollino: this is Calabria and the innkeepers, two young artists, will help you choose what to do with care and sensitivity.
