The "Antica Locanda Matilda" is an old master's house from the 1700s or thereabouts, immersed among the lush green nature of the Mantova countryside, in Castelletto Borgo. The relaxing atmosphere here, where you will be welcomed with style, warmth, kindness and cordiality, will make your stay very special, whether you come for work or for a holiday, for just one night or for a whole month. Ah, by the way: the various guests here in the past include frequent visits by Prince De Curtis, that is "Totò", the husband of Miss Franca Faldini, the ex-owner of the home.
The bed and breakfast offers 3 large rooms with lofts and wooden ceilings, as well as visible beams and brick floors. The furniture makes use of the old local units typical in this area. One of the rooms has its own private en-suite bathroom with a shower and hydro-massage bathtub, while the other two bedrooms share a bathroom with shower. All the rooms have colour TV and air conditioning.
Breakfast here is continental style: coffee, espresso, cappuccino, chocolate, milk, a whole range of teas, camomile, fruit juices, Nutella, a whole range of jams and marmalades, yogurts, butter, bread, biscuits, crackers, sliced meats, cheeses, fruit, corn-flakes, "sbrisolona" crunchy cake and fresh brioches cooked just before you eat. Breakfast here then is a real treat. It is served between 8.30 and 9.30, in the garden, in the shade of some nice old trees, or in the elegant Dining Room, in front of a lit fire.
The B&B offers guests here a private car park, bicycles on request, a shuttle service to and from the train station, an Internet service and various special deals with the area's fine restaurants offering local delights.
As well as the charming old historic city of Mantova, just 5 km away, with its lovely buildings, exhibitions and museums, we recommend motorboat excursions along the Po, or boat trips in Mantova's three lakes, the various parks, including Parco del Mincio, Bosco Fontana, Parco delle Bertone, Parco Sigurtà and, of course, the spa Parco in Colà. The old Polirone Abbey in San Benedetto Po, Sabbioneta, "a little Athens" with its treasures, or Castel d'Ario: where Tazio Nuvolari was born and home to the amazing "risotto alla pilota" (Milner's Risotto) dish. The Morenici Hill Wine route is great for bike or horse trips. The Truffles route between Quistello and Felonica and the Sanctuary of the "Madonna delle Grazie" are visited by thousands of people every year to see the historic "madonnari" (paintings of the Madonna). The various bicycle tracks go all the way to Peschiera del Garda.
