Suvereto rises along the right bank of the lower valley of the Cornia river. Its name probably comes from the Latin "suber", that means "cork", and the suffix "-etum" with reference to the richness of oak-trees in the territory, from which it is possible to obtain the corky. The origin of the village of Suvereto occurred during the Early Middle Ages, after the collapse of the Roman Empire, under the jurisdiction of the Aldobrandeschi's Counts
