A little jewel on Lake Maggiore, with an old historical centre which is a traditionally connected to the Longobard King Desiderio, who is supposed to have purifield a Pagan temple there, dedicated to Jove, converting it into a Christian Church. From the 12th century, the village was a demain of the Visconti family, as shown by the Visconti Castle, for a long time country mansion of the Visconti family, now almost abandoned. There are also other important monuments: the Romanic church of St. Michael, with the beautiful leaning bell tower with 15th century frescoes inside; the Parish church, also with 15th century frescoes; the Benedictine Sanctuary on mount S. Salvatore, with an interesting architectural complex of cells and apses in a good state of repair. Thanks to the rich and almost untouched vegetation surrounding the hamlet, you can enjoy long walks and rides along the old paths on the hills.
