The old town centre is entered through the area where the gate known as Porta delle Buccerie used to stand (it was knocked down in 1884), and nearby we can see the Chiesa Madre, San Martino. This church, of uncertain foundation, was enlarged in the 14th and 15th c., restructured in the area of the apse in the 17th c., and redesigned with a central nave and two aisles in the l8th c., when the Corleone painter Carmelo Sarpiatra also decorated the cupola with frescoes.
