Tuoro sul Trasimeno is situated in a dominant position on a small relief whic stretches out over the northern plain of Lake Trasimeno, where in 217 B. C. the famous battle took place between the Carthaginian army commanded by Hannibal Barca, and the two Roman legions under the command of Caius Flaminius Nepote. The name of the village probably derives from the word Torus which in Latin signifies “swelling, protruding”.Following in particular the concept of attaching names to places, this name during the Middle Ages was also expressed to define a rounded form, that exactly of a small relief.
