The marvellous island of Levanzo is characterised by high coastline and numerous grottoes, the most famous of which is the Genovese, discovered quite casually in 1949 and containing rock engravings dating back to the Neolithic and Upper Paleolithic period. Anyone staying on this island must be passionately fond of the sea, solitary walks like the one along the road that divides the island from North to South, connecting the village with the lighthouse at Capo Rosso situated on a sheer cliff but offering an incomparable panorama. Circumnavigation of the island is a must if one is to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscape and the numerous coves, among them Cala Dogana, Minnola and Tramontana.
